contemplating the Yamas in the spiritual and physical practice

A Workshop with Ehud Neuhaus

Sunday, October 26th, 2025, 15:00-18:30
At Essência Nature Retreat, Aljezur, Portugal

some 2000-2500 years ago, the sage Patanjali composed the text know as “The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali”—a comprehensive description of the science of yoga. In his system, Patanjali is describing the 8 limbs of yoga: Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana & Samadhi.

The Yamas, the first limb, often described as “ethical restraints” and could be seen as basic moral guidelines or guidelines for living in society, could also become a deep contemplative practice, both in one relationship to the world around them and to one’s internal world.

In this workshop we’ll unpack the practice of the Yamas and how can it serve as a solid base for both the spiritual and physical practices. The workshop is comprised of a presentation and a nice and long Yang/Yin practice.
