Join us in the beautiful south of Portugal for an Autumn Yoga retreat. Over the course of a few days, you’ll immerse yourself in the peaceful environment and the practice of Yoga, with focus on connecting to your own experience and by that, deepening your understanding of your own unique anatomy. This retreat is an opportunity to slow down, cultivate awareness, and explore the subtleties of your practice.
For a few days, retreat from the daily rush and focus on what yoga is all about: quieting down and turning inwards.
Let the distractions drop – the simple off-grid life provides the basic comforts, without unnecessary fluff. It doesn’t matter what leggings you’re wearing, what water bottle you have or how flexible you are. Easy going daily schedule, lots of free time.
Connect – to yourself, to people in the group and the community, to the surrounding nature. With less distractions and no rush, there is more space to listen, observe and to feel what is happening inside of you and around you.
Appreciate – the natural water running in the taps, the delicious food prepared with love and attention from local organic products. The simple life and direct connection to the environment brings awareness to the abundance we so often take for granted.
Practice – The daily Yoga practice is accessible to everyone, regardless of body type, age and experience. The inclusive, functional approach invites you to discover the practice that suits you—in a way that is fulfilling and nourishing.
Yoga philosophy is woven into the daily practice, and we will explore how this ancient wisdom can offer us meaningful support in our modern, everyday lives. You are invited to connect with the deeper values of yoga—moving away from the superficial, aesthetic aspects, and focussing to what truly matters in the practice.

What to Expect:
- Functional Approach to Yoga: This retreat is a deep dive into the functional approach to yoga. We focus on understanding and honouring our uniqueness in all aspects of the practice. With daily vigorous Yang movement, quiet Yin time and meditation you’ll have plenty of opportunities to explore and make your practice more your own.
- Daily Practice & Meditation: Enjoy 2 daily nourishing classes, Yang and Yin, morning meditation sessions and insightful workshops exploring the philosophy at the base of the practice.
- Nourishment & Relaxation: 3 daily meals, all plant-based (vegan), organic and local-sourced, designed to fuel your body. Enjoy the beautiful landscape from your room’s terrace or by hiking it, unwind in the sauna or soak in the hot tub under the open sky, letting the stillness of the surroundings restore both body and mind.
- Workshops: In addition to daily practices, we will spend two afternoons diving into yoga Philosophy

Who we are

Ehud Neuhaus
teacher
Ehud has been practising yoga for over 20 years and teaching since 2014. He assisted Anat Geiger and Marcel van de Vis Heil in their Functional Yoga Teacher Training since 2013 and in the last years has studying with Paul and Suzee Grilley, pioneers in the functional approach to yoga and founders of Yin Yoga.
Together with Anat and Marcel he founded the online platform The Fat Yogis, home of functional yoga. These days Ehud is giving weekly classes, teacher training programs and retreats.
Ehud’s teaching style is playful and introspective, mostly combining Yang (active) and Yin aspects in his classes. Asana and philosophy are both practised on the mat.

Lina Breiteryte

Lina has been living in Portugal for the past three years, after stepping away from a corporate career and life in a large city. With 15 years of yoga practice and three years of dedicated study with her teacher, Ehud, she brings both depth and commitment to her path.
With passion and commitment to personal development, Lina studied and explored a range of modalities that support her growth, her intention to live with greater awareness and integrity, and her ability to hold space for others.
Lina’s natural ease with people, combined with her background in Human Resources, plays an important role in shaping a space that feels safe, supportive, and welcoming for everyone attending.

Location
The retreat will take place at Essência (south of Aljezur, Algarve, Portugal – map), the most beautiful location surrounded by silence and nature. This peaceful sanctuary offers a truly immersive experience where participants will be nourished by nutritious vegan meals and study in the magical Shala, which faces a serene cork oak forest. With its tranquil surroundings, Essência provides the perfect space for deepening your practice and connecting with yourself in nature.
Essência is more than just a retreat centre nestled in a secluded, magnificent valley—it is also a vibrant eco-community. We are welcomed there not merely as guests, but as family, also connecting with the people who live and work on the land. A significant portion of the 20-hectare property is covered by a mystical cork oak forest, where the serene Shala is located, offering a perfect space for our daily practices.
